OpenNote AI
Privacy Policy
OpenNote AI is designed as a local-first notes, recording, document, handwriting, and AI assistant app. This Privacy Policy explains what information OpenNote AI handles, how it is used, and how your private content is protected.
OpenNote AI does not send your notes, documents, PDFs, recordings, handwriting, transcripts, prompts, or AI conversations to third-party AI services.
1. Overview
OpenNote AI helps users create notes, manage documents, work with PDFs and imported files, record audio, organize information, use handwriting tools, and use AI-assisted features where available.
Our privacy approach is simple: your private content should stay under your control. OpenNote AI does not sell your personal information and does not use your private content for advertising.
2. Local-First AI Processing
OpenNote AI is designed to be local-first. AI-assisted features are designed to run on your device when available.
OpenNote AI does not send your notes, documents, PDFs, recordings, handwriting, transcripts, prompts, or AI conversations to OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenRouter, Replicate, Hugging Face Inference API, or any other third-party AI service for AI processing.
OpenNote AI does not use your notes, documents, PDFs, recordings, handwriting, transcripts, prompts, or AI conversations to train third-party AI models.
If a future version of OpenNote AI adds an optional online AI feature that sends user-selected content to an external AI provider, the app will clearly explain what data is sent, identify the service provider, and ask for your permission before sending that content.
3. Notes, Documents, Recordings, Handwriting, and Transcripts
OpenNote AI may handle content that you create, import, record, or generate inside the app, including:
- Notes and text documents
- PDFs and imported files
- Handwriting and Apple Pencil content
- Audio recordings
- Transcripts and translated text
- Summaries and AI-assisted outputs generated inside the app
- Folders, tags, organization data, and app preferences
This content is used to provide OpenNote AI's note-taking, document management, recording, handwriting, organization, sync, and AI-assisted features.
OpenNote AI does not sell this content, does not use it for advertising, and does not send it to third-party AI services.
4. Optional Local AI Model Downloads
OpenNote AI may allow you to download optional local AI model files, such as Gemma-compatible models, so that AI features can run on your device.
When you choose to download a local AI model, your device may contact a model file host or mirror, such as Hugging Face, ModelScope, GitHub Releases, or another configured download source, only to download the model file.
These model file hosts may receive standard network information normally included in a download request, such as:
- IP address
- Request time
- Requested file URL
- Browser, device, or network metadata normally included in the download request
OpenNote AI does not send your notes, documents, PDFs, recordings, handwriting, transcripts, prompts, or AI conversations to model file hosts.
5. Speech Recognition, Transcription, and Translation
OpenNote AI is designed to prefer on-device processing where available.
If Apple system frameworks are used for speech recognition, dictation, transcription, translation, or related device features, those features are handled according to Apple's system privacy protections and the permissions you grant on your device.
OpenNote AI does not send recordings, transcripts, translated text, or related user content to third-party AI services.
6. Sign in with Apple and Account Data
If you choose to sign in with Apple, Apple may provide OpenNote AI with an app-specific user identifier and, depending on your Apple ID settings and choices, your name or email address.
OpenNote AI uses this information only for account access, account management, sync-related functionality where available, and paid feature access.
OpenNote AI does not use Sign in with Apple information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
7. Subscriptions and Purchases
If you purchase a subscription or paid feature, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. OpenNote AI does not receive your full payment card details.
OpenNote AI may receive subscription status information needed to unlock Plus, Pro, or other paid features.
You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID App Store account settings.
8. iCloud and Sync
If OpenNote AI sync is available and you choose to use it, your account and app data may be stored or synced through Apple iCloud or the configured sync service only to provide sync across your devices.
Sync data is used for app functionality, such as keeping your notes, folders, preferences, and paid feature access available across supported devices.
OpenNote AI does not use synced user content for advertising and does not send synced user content to third-party AI services.
9. Data We Do Not Sell or Use for Tracking
OpenNote AI does not sell your personal information.
OpenNote AI does not use advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or third-party tracking pixels.
OpenNote AI does not use your notes, documents, PDFs, recordings, handwriting, transcripts, prompts, or AI conversations for advertising, resale, or third-party AI model training.
10. Diagnostics and App Performance
OpenNote AI may receive limited diagnostic, crash, or performance information if provided by Apple or platform tools. This information is used to improve app stability, performance, and compatibility.
Diagnostic information is not used for advertising or tracking.
If OpenNote AI adds a third-party analytics or crash reporting service in the future, this Privacy Policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated accordingly.
11. Data Retention and Account Deletion
Content stored locally in OpenNote AI remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, or remove it through device storage and backup controls.
Users can delete their OpenNote AI account directly inside the app:
Settings > Account > Delete Account
Deleting your account removes account-related data according to the in-app account deletion flow. After deletion, you may lose access to account-based sync and account-based app functionality. App Store subscription management remains subject to Apple's App Store subscription rules and your Apple ID settings.
12. Data Security
OpenNote AI uses platform-provided storage, security, and account features where available. You are responsible for protecting access to your device, Apple ID, backups, and any files you export or share from OpenNote AI.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, but OpenNote AI works to protect user data using reasonable safeguards.
13. Children
OpenNote AI is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through OpenNote AI, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when OpenNote AI changes, when new features are added, or when legal requirements change. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
Material changes to privacy practices will also be reflected in the app and in App Store privacy information where required.
